Foxtons joins London business group that strongly backs second Brexit referendum

first_imgFoxtons has joined a London business organisation that earlier this year pushed for a second referendum on Brexit and has consistently lobbied against a ‘no deal’ stance in recent months.Called London First it has welcomed the estate agency, saying it is “in good company at this crucial time for our capital”.Foxtons joins several other estate agencies within the 200-strong member organisation including Savills, Gerald Eve, JLL and Strutt & Parker’s parent company BNP Paribas.London First was established in 1992 and claims to ‘speak for London businesses’ and has been endorsed by the capital’s mayor Sadiq Khan. The not-for-profit organisation has recently been conducting a fiery campaign against Brexit, including recent comments on its website that the process of leaving the EU is a ‘farce’.Its CEO Jasmine Whitbread (left) recently said that: “Now is the time for clear leadership: we should stop the clock, revoke Article 50 and give Parliament time to find a way forward. And if it can’t do that, put the decision back to the people.“The next Prime Minister must accept that the only way to break the stalemate in Parliament is to go back to the people for a definitive vote on the actual terms of a revised exit agreement. We cannot and must not risk crashing out of the EU in October.”Foxtons made no political donation either last year or the year before, but may be hoping that London First can help drag London’s housing market out of its Brexit-induced catatonia. The company references ‘political instability’ 14 times in its most recent annual report for 2018. June 5, 2019Nigel LewisWhat’s your opinion?
