SES has announced that it will launch its satellit

first_imgSES has announced that it will launch its satellite broadband service, SES Broadband, in Ka-band in November.The new service will offer download speeds of up to 20Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps. It will be marketed via SES’ partners NordNet, Vivéole and Wibox to end-consumers in France.SES Broadband in Ka-band will be available pending the launch and beginning of operations of SES’ Astra 2F satellite. The satellite is currently scheduled for launch on September 21 and will be located at the orbital position 28.2 degrees East.”We are very pleased that the Ka-band ground infrastructure is now fully operational, with a new generation of end-user terminals from Gilat Satellite Technologies and Newtec soon to be available to our customers,” said Patrick Biewer, managing director of SES Broadband Services. “With Astra 2F and the subsequent launches of Astra 2E, Astra 5B and Astra 2G in 2013 and 2014, we will be able to further expand our satellite broadband service in Europe with the additional Ka-band capacity on our fleet.”last_img read more

first_imgUS online video site and web series specialist Blip is looking to make a UK hire as it aims to expand its business into Europe. Speaking to DTVE, Blip CEO Kelly Day said it was looking to hire someone in the UK to focus on “producer relationships,” tapping into new video creator talent on this side of the Atlantic.“It’s the beginning of having more of a foundation in London, Day said, adding that London would also serve as a jumping-off point for other major European markets. The firm interviewed candidates for the role earlier this month.In terms of further expansion plans, Day said: “We are looking at some of the non-European countries as interesting markets and thinking about strategies there – Latin America is interesting and we’re looking at more Spanish-language content. India is very interesting, and [we are also] looking at potential partners in India.”Blip is home to original web series from professional and up-and-coming producers and airs dramas, comedies and other categories of online video for free.It has also started developing partnerships with some of the bigger YouTube channels to create vertical branded destination sites. It recently signed a deal with FremantleMedia North America to develop a new pet-related entertainment destination on Blip, with the content to also be available across the web. Bouygues Telecom overtook Numericable in June to b

first_imgBouygues Telecom overtook Numericable in June to become the fastest internet service provider in France, according to Netflix’s latest ISP Speed Index.Bouygues took the top spot with an average speed of 3.86 Megabits per second (Mbps), leapfrogging Numericable with a speed of 3.84 Mbps, while Orange remained in third place with an average speed of 3.52 Mbps.In Belgium there was also change among the fastest ISPs, with Proximus taking the top spot from Voo with an average speed of 4.20 Mbps and Numericable jumping from fourth to third place, putting Telenet in fourth place.In Germany, Unitymedia KabelBW remained the fastest ranked ISP with an average speed of 4.16 Mbps, but Kabel Deutschland dropped from second to third place, overtaken by Quix – Inexio.Similarly, in Luxembourg Numericable continued to hold the number one spot, while Visual Online took second place with an average speed of 4.18 Mbps, ahead of Lux Online which dropped into third.There was no change in the ranking of the top ISPs in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK in June, according to the research.Over in the US, Netflix recorded “much movement in the index, with Cox moving to the top spot with an average speed of 3.58 Mbps and Verizon FiOS slipped to number three with an average speed of 3.43 Mbps.“Cablevision came in second, with an average speed of 3.57 Mbps. Bright House and Time Warner Cable also slipped in the rankings, dropping three and two spots, respectively,” said Netflix.The firm claims that the Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services and data for that service provider.last_img read more
